Allyson Greenenwald has been a board certified music therpist since 2008. Prior to graduating Illinois State University, she completed her internship at the Riley Children's Hospital in Indianapolis, Indiana. She was a music therapist in northwest Indiana for 3 years before moving back to Illinois.
Allyson has been a music therapist in schools in western Cook County since 2010 as well as a contract music therapist in Western Dupage County for the past six years. She has vast experience cotreating with speech language pathologists, occupational therapists, physical therapists, social workers and school psychologists. Allyson also has experience working with the IEP process including evaluations, goal development and implementation.
Allyson was fortunate to co-present at the 2023 Great Lakes Region Music Therapy Conference regarding the use of visual aids in music therapy. In addition, she has served on the board for the Great Lakes Region Music Therapy Conference Committee as well as the Illinois Association for Music Therapy in various roles.
When she is not working with her students in music therapy sessions, she is Mom to two wonderful children, Nicholas and Emily.
In 2020, with the pandemic just underway, people across the globe were quarantined in their homes. Across Italy, people found a way to connect with each other, heading to their balconies to sing and praise the work of the medical staffs facing the pandemic. The outpouring of love, friendship and hope provided a bright spot in a dark time.
Dave Matthews wrote his song "Singing From The Windows" and debuted it solo during the pandemic. It was a song that was repeated in our household as a reminder that someday, we would see our friends again.
